Sustainability and CSR in communication, marketing and sales at the SDG Day 2026

January 28, 2026

At the SDG Day 2026, the Communication Management and Marketing & Sales Management study programs demonstrated how sustainability and CSR communication are taught hands-on and how the SDGs can be experienced firsthand.

Sustainability is an essential part of the curriculum. At the SDG Day 2026, lecturers and students provided insights into the study programs and brought the UN Sustainable Development Goals to life through an SDGs game.

Sustainability communication versus greenwashing in the Bachelor’s program Corporate Communication

In the first semester of the Bachelor’s program in Corporate Communication, students examine the tension between sustainability communication and greenwashing. In the lecture “Internal Communications & Ethics” (Organizational Communication & Ethics module), they analyze companies’ advertising and communication measures in terms of authenticity and transparency. On the SDG Day 2026, the students presented their findings in poster presentations.

CSR communication in the Master’s program Communication Management

In the Master’s program in Communication Management, students deepen their expertise in corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication. The focus is on the strategic management of sustainability issues – from positioning and stakeholder dialogue to consistent internal and external communication. The SDG Day offered insights into the lecture “Responsible & Sustainable Business Communication” (1st semester). Master’s students presented their analyses and suggestions for improving the CSR communication strategy of selected companies.

2030 SGDs GAME brings sustainability goals to life

The 2030 SDGs GAME brings the United Nations’ sustainable development goals to life in an interactive way. This multiplayer card game uses an interactive setting to illustrate the systemic relationships surrounding sustainable development, conflicting goals, decision-making, and cooperation, making it clear why sustainability always involves communication, coordination, and joint action. Students and visitors were able to try out the game on the SDG Day 2026. The format was organized by the Competence Center for Marketing (Marketing & Sales Management study programs) at FHWien der WKW.
