What is the state of production work in Austria? Running until June, the “Made in Austria (MiA) IndustriePANEL” of TU Wien – in cooperation with the Institute for Digital Transformation and Strategy (IDS) of FHWien der WKW – helps to determine the current situation and invites participants to TU Wien in October to exchange ideas with science and practice.
For the seventh time, the “Made in Austria IndustriePANEL: Future of Production Work in Austria” will survey the current challenges and future prospects of domestic production companies. A particular focus is placed on sustainable production strategies, international competitiveness and innovative solutions for the future.
Changing economic situation
The results of the 2024 survey showed a deterioration in the business situation for the first time, as well as a decline in competitiveness in an international comparison. This underlines the acute need for action in the industry. At the same time, the data reveals differentiated insights into strategic developments, for example regarding the increasing shortage of skilled workers, the impact of geopolitical uncertainties and the digital transformation.
Prospects for digitalization and the circular economy
Active participation is also expected in 2025: More than 100 managers from domestic manufacturing companies of all sizes and sectors will give their assessments of the economic framework conditions, the implementation of the EU AI Act, new working models, digitalization, automation and specific initiatives relating to resource efficiency and the circular economy.
MiA-IndustrieFORUM 2025: Exchange above the rooftops of Vienna
The results of this year’s survey will be presented to the public on Monday, October 13, 2025, as part of the MiA-IndustrieFORUM at TUtheSKY at TU Wien. The event not only serves to present key findings but also sees itself as a platform for an active dialog between research, business and society.
Under the title “Circular factory for the eternally innovative product”, the keynote speech by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gisela Lanza from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will highlight innovative concepts for sustainable production systems. Further presentations and discussions will round off a day that brings science and business together, focuses on future topics and looks beyond the rooftops of Vienna into the industrial future. All IndustriePANEL participants will receive an invitation to attend the event free of charge.
