Kick-off for IDS project on the digitalization of pharmaceutical logistics

October 27, 2021

In order to make pharmaceutical logistics more efficient, secure and sustainable in the future, start-ups led by IDS met last week for the kick-off of the FFG COIN project “DigiPharmaLogNet” at FHWien der WKW.

The still ongoing pandemic shows how important rapid distribution and flexible availability of pharmaceutical products are for the containment of epidemics and diseases. In order to make this crucial logistics chain more efficient, secure and sustainable in the future, innovative start-ups under the lead management of the Institute for Digital Transformation and Strategy (IDS) met last week for the kick-off of the FFG COIN network project “DigiPharmaLogNet” at FHWien der WKW.

CEO Michael Heritsch, as host, warmly welcomed all those involved in the project. In addition to getting to know each other personally, the relevant key points and milestones for the next 24 months were on the agenda. Peter Entenfellner from the project partner BOOXit presented the vision for future pharmaceutical logistics: self-organizing reusable boxes that, in addition to ensuring certain transport parameters (e.g. temperature, traceability, automated data collection and transmission etc.), enable increased automation and sustainable optimization of the supply chain. Savings of packaging material through a reusable system, optimized transport routes, dynamic control at load carrier level and relief of employees through physical and digital assistance systems are among the targeted improvements. This self-organizing reusable transport carrier system thus plays a central role in the digitalization of pharmaceutical logistics within the framework of “DigiPharmaLogNet”.

In accordance with the network concept behind the FFG COIN-funded project, intensive integration of innovative project partners was ensured. Additional partners in the project are the companies Richter Pharma AG and Lassmann International GmbH as pilot users in pharmaceutical logistics, the KI4life business unit of Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH and the IoT start-up Compunity GmbH, in order to map the technological aspects regarding digitalization and artificial intelligence.
