In spring 2025, the endowed chair for sustainable urban and tourism development, Cornelia Dlabaja, published a workbook entitled “Raum – Theorie – Empirie” with 14 practice-oriented contributions on space-related urban research.
Published in the series “Forschung und Praxis an der FHWien der WKW”, Cornelia Dlabaja and her co-editors Sarah Nimführ and Nicolas Götz provide a basis for the application of spatial theoretical approaches in empirical research. It brings together interdisciplinary perspectives and illuminates various aspects of the constitution and production of space in 14 contributions.
Practical spatial theory meets empirical research
These contributions were written by researchers from the fields of European ethnology, sociology, spatial planning, architecture, anthropology, cultural and literary studies, history and geography. They range from micro-social considerations to relational and regionally transformative processes. The contributions are embedded in studies on regulative, actor-centered analyses from the fields of urban and gender studies as well as on the production of power and space in rural, urban and insular contexts.
Interdisciplinary perspectives on the constitution and production of space
This book is aimed equally at advanced students and researchers working in spatial urban research, as well as anyone interested in spatial research. Each contribution shows how theory and empiricism can be combined in research practice. With its focus on the practical application of spatial theoretical approaches, the workbook is an indispensable tool for anyone involved in researching and analyzing space.
