Review of the 10th Austrian University of Applied Sciences Language Instructors’ Conference

June 27, 2022

Research meets practice – in person! The 10th Austrian University of Applied Sciences Language Instructors’ Conference was a truly memorable and rewarding experience for all who attended.

On June 10-11, 2022 ESP & Business English educators, researchers, students and publishers gathered in Vienna for the 10th UAS Language Instructors’ Conference, hosted by the Competence Center for Business English at FHWien der WKW. Around 65 delegates from Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences and other educational institutions around Europe (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine and the UK) gathered to share experiences and research findings around the theme of “Beyond the Traditional Classroom: Teaching and Learning in ESP Higher Education”.

Both keynote speakers, Dr. Ute Smit and Evan Frendo, provided highly engaging and meaningful insights into how both students and workplace users of English learn and communicate in rich and context-specific settings beyond our classrooms. And in five diverse workshops as well as fourteen talks and six poster presentations, our community thoroughly enjoyed exchanging expertise and experiences of teaching and learning during the pandemic and beyond.

It was especially gratifying to be able to continue discussing the sessions beyond the conference rooms and network over endless cups of coffee, delicious snacks and a well-attended conference dinner on Friday evening.

We were pleased with the positive and appreciative feedback we received from our conference speakers, delegates and supporters, to whom we extend a huge THANK YOU for making our event such a success! We hope to see you again soon!
