Interactive Self-Learning Course by the Library is Live!

September 29, 2025

From the collaboration between the Competence Center for E-Learning and the Library, a smart new learning resource has been created: “Wissensschatz im Griff: Literaturrecherche und Verwaltung leicht gemacht” – an interactive self-learning course for students that provides compact, practical, and always-accessible research skills.

From Idea to Implementation

The goal was to create a flexible, location-independent learning format that strengthens two key research skills:

  • Targeted literature search in the online catalog and on-site in the library
  • Thematic research with a focus on topic development and search strategies

The course is designed to be easily integrated into classes while also supporting students individually. This relieves both teaching staff and the library.

Course Structure & Content

The course takes around one hour and consists of two phases:

  1. Before Starting Studies – Targeted Document Search: How do I search for and find books in the library?
  2. For Final Papers – Thematic Research: How and where do I find relevant literature on a specific topic?

What can students expect?

  • Library services at a glance
  • Videos & a 360° tour for realistic insights
  • Interactive scenarios with typical student questions
  • Screencasts with tips & tricks for research
  • And: a personal introduction to Katja Sauer, Head of the Library

Learning Objectives

After completing the course, students will be able to:

  • Search for, find, and access literature in the online catalog in a targeted way. They will also be able to refine their search results and organize their literature.
  • Conduct their research effectively and efficiently. They will master the use of various tools and thus find the literature they need quickly and easily.

Conclusion: The course makes literature research easier, faster, and more focused – a real added value for both study and teaching!

We warmly invite you to explore the course and recommend it to your students.
