A very popular course in the Bachelor’s program Tourism & Hospitality Management is the specialization “Event & Congress Design.” Here, our students not only learn how events and congresses are organized and planned but also get a behind-the-scenes look during excursions. And in October, they went on two trips.
Behind the Scenes: GAME CITY at Vienna City Hall
On October 9, lecturer Tarek Sharif gave students a glimpse into the organization of GAME CITY at Vienna City Hall – Austria’s largest video game fair. With his agency Mice and Men, Tarek Sharif himself is the organizer of this event, which attracts more than 85,000 visitors. During a “behind the scenes” tour, students learned about the organizational and technical challenges behind such a large gaming event. Topics such as visitor management, stage and lighting technology, security, and communication were the focus.
Visit to event technology specialist Concept Solutions
On October 16, another practical insight was on the agenda: a visit to the technology company Concept Solutions in Vienna.
The company is one of Austria’s leading providers of sound, lighting, video, and stage technology. The students gained exciting insights into logistics, technical planning, and stage construction — and were able to experience firsthand how precise technical coordination ensures that events run smoothly. The excursion showed how closely creativity and technology work together in event design — from the initial idea to its implementation.
The two excursions highlighted the importance of practical experience in everyday student life. From technical operations to large-scale events, the students were able to directly link their knowledge to the event industry and make valuable contacts for the future.
