Data, Markets, Stories: Bloomberg for Journalistic Research

December 19, 2025

Students in the third semester of the Bachelor’s Program in Journalism & Media Management were given the opportunity to explore topics of their choice in greater depth using the Bloomberg terminals at FHWien der WKW in the “Capital Investment & Funding” course.

The topics chosen by the participants for their presentations were supplemented and explored in greater depth using specially created Bloomberg practice examples, such as company analysis of ownership and control structures, share price performance, customer and supplier structures, company news, or research and analysis of recent IPOs.

Bloomberg for Deep Dives

Bloomberg is one of the leading providers of financial market information and offers, for example, company and economic data and news. Users benefit from access to up-to-date information, such as company key figures and macroeconomic developments. The terminals are established worldwide and are used in the financial sector as well as in companies, public administration, and scientific environments.

By using the Bloomberg Terminal, students have the opportunity to use a professional tool from the field. In the field of journalism, there are few opportunities in Austrian higher education to work with such a specialized program and conduct even more in-depth research.

The integration of Bloomberg terminals into courses gives students direct practical experience and shows them how professional information and analysis platforms can be used skills that are essential both during their studies and in their future careers.
