Try-out seminar “AI in journalism: tools, workflows and quality management”

May 17, 2024 | 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
FHWien der WKW
Währinger Gürtel 97, 1180 Vienna

Discover the practice-oriented courses of the Vienna Management Academy and get an exclusive insight into our new training courses for journalists starting in September 2024!

In our free hands-on seminar “AI in Journalism: Tools, Workflows and Quality Management” you will learn how to use artificial intelligence (AI) applications in your daily journalistic work in a creative, profitable and quality-conscious way. You will not only learn the basics of how ChatGPT, Midjourney & Co. work, but also develop and test your own ideas for using AI tools – whether in your newsroom, for your social media posts or for a personal content project. We will discuss examples of targeted database searches, the generation of text, image or video content, and automated editorial workflows. It is always important to critically reflect on the journalistic requirements for ethically responsible and high-quality content with the automatically generated output of the tools.

Lecturers

Our experienced lecturers will provide you with valuable insights from the practice of cross-media news production: Robert Varga, Chief Product Officer of the Austria Press Agency (APA), and Jakob Weichenberger, data journalist at “Zeit im Bild” (ORF), will share their experiences from the newsroom and accompany you on your journey of discovery through the exciting world of AI. Under their guidance, you will develop your own concept for the journalistic use of AI tools. This will be discussed with the other participants in a final presentation.

Target Group

This seminar is aimed at anyone interested in the Vienna Management Academy’s cross-media and data journalism training programs: freelance or employed journalists, editors and media professionals who want to learn more about digital content production. Initial experience with AI tools is helpful, but not required. In this trial seminar, you can find out how our practice-oriented courses at the Vienna Management Academy work. The seminar gives you an impression of our new continuing education courses that start in September 2024:
