Partners for the Dual Bachelor's program

As of the winter semester 2023/24 the Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management will be offered as a dual study form in addition to a full-time variant. Below we have summarized some important questions and answers for you:

What is a dual study program?

Within the dual study program there is an interlocking of learning locations:

  • Academic learning location (FHWien der WKW)
  • Practical learning location (company practice partner)

Starting in the 2nd  year of study, students are employed by a practice partner for 2.5 days in order to gain the professional practice relevant to this study program. In the first year of study (1st  and 2nd  semesters), no professional practice takes place yet and is therefore to be understood as the theoretical foundation of the dual study program.

When do the practical phases take place?

The practical phases take place in semesters 3-6 and comprise 12 ECTS each. This corresponds to 300 hours of work per semester or 20 hours per semester week (a total of 17-18 weeks per semester; according to the university’s academic calendar).

Which requirements do I have to fulfill as a practice partner?
  • Existing apprentice trainer examination by an employee in the company
  • Willingness to play an active role in professional training
  • Cooperation agreement between university and company
  • Assurance of the defined acquisition of competencies by students
  • Provision of a contact person/mentor for the student in the company, including regular feedback meetings (at least once per semester is recommended).
How does the matching between the company and the student take place?

In the 1st semester, students receive an application training and an introduction to our practice partners. Our partner companies cover the entire spectrum of the tourism industry. Our practical partners include hotel companies, tour operators and travel agencies, congress companies and mobility companies. You can find an overview of our practical companies here.

In the 2nd semester, the application phase begins, in which the students contact the desired companies directly. Matching with the practical companies then takes place during the 2nd semester, before the practical phases start in the 3rd semester.

What are the contractual regulations?

The following contractual regulations apply:

  • Practice company and FHWien der WKW: Cooperation agreement
  • Practice company and students: Work contract
  • Students and FHWien der WKW: Learning agreement
What are the benefits for practice partners?
  • Active role in professional training
  • Staff loyalty for the entire duration of the studies and beyond
  • Access to academically and professionally well-trained employees
