Case study: “Global Mobility” with Vialto Partners

January 13, 2026

As part of the “Interdisciplinary Case Studies” course, Stephanie Maukner and Ilma Okanović from Vialto Partners Austria Steuerberatungs GmbH presented an interesting case study on the topic of “global mobility” and cross-border activities of employees.

Vialto Partners is the leading specialist for international issues relating to cross-border employment and remote work. The company focuses 100 % on cross-border personnel mobility and has local expertise in the relevant legal provisions worldwide.

The combination of case studies and practical lectures provided clear added value for the students, as they were not only able to learn about theoretical concepts in the abstract, but also apply them to real-life examples, reflect on them critically and link them to specific professional decision-making processes. In addition, they gained a sound and authentic insight into current practical processes and challenges, which strengthened their understanding of the relevance of scientific content in their future professional lives.

Tax issues relating to foreign assignments

At the beginning of the event, the speakers explained the global mobility consulting process at Vialto Partners, focusing on tax consulting before, during and after the assignment of employees abroad or to Austria. The students were given a concise overview of personal and property tax liability on foreign income and the application of double taxation agreements. The students then worked in groups on case studies of selected examples of international activities. They were supported by international experts from Vialto Partners, who joined the course live via video, which made for a particularly interesting setting. The groups presented their results, followed by a technically sound explanation and an exciting discussion with a strong international focus.
