Marlene Bäuchl and Alexander Stieglitz, partners at the management consultancy Forvis Mazar and cooperation partners of the Financial Management study program, worked with third-semester students of the Bachelor’s Program Finance, Accounting & Taxation at FHWien der WKW to develop an exciting case study from real life.
In the lecture “Interdisciplinary Case Studies,” the students analyzed the events of a financial scandal from 2008 in a practical manner and experienced how auditors and tax advisors deal with complex cases and what legal and tax consequences arise from them.
The financial scandal from 2008 that was discussed arose from years of improper bookkeeping and misuse of funds by the commercial management at the time. This led to a million-dollar hole in the balance sheet and, among other things, to resignations. The case illustrates the importance of transparency, control, and professional management.
The case study provided students with a practical example to help them understand the work of auditors and tax advisors.
