Hamburg – vibrant metropolis, hotbed of innovation and hotspot for pioneering real estate projects. This is exactly where the students of the study program Real Estate Management went at the beginning of June. As part of a 2.5-day field trip, they immersed themselves in Hamburg’s real estate world and explored visionary urban development projects, learned from leading experts and made valuable contacts.
Market overview and neighborhood developments
After an initial overview of the current market conditions and the investment and rental market in Hamburg at CBRE in the Kesselhaus, the first excursion began. The students were given an exclusive insight into HafenCity, one of the largest urban development projects in Europe. Another highlight was the tour of the newly opened Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, which is considered a flagship project for urban district development.
Investment, innovation and award-winning architecture
On the second day, the group started with a visit to Union Investment. In addition to insights into institutional real estate investments, there was an opportunity to discuss with the NextGen Board and admire Hamburg’s skyline from the roof terrace of the Emporio. Lunch at the Rheinischer Hafen was followed by a tour of the “Alter Wall” project, which is considered a prime example of modern neighborhood development with its mix of office, hotel, retail and residential space. Another highlight was the guided tour of the spectacularly converted Green Bunker St. Pauli, which won the prestigious MIPIM Award in 2025.
The field trip was rounded off with an architectural city tour under the motto “String of Pearls” on the third day.
Accompanied by industry experts Jenni Wenkel, MRICS from Union Investement Estate GmbH and Friedrich Csörgits, MRICS, the excursion was a trip full of insights, networking and unforgettable impressions – a perfect end to the academic year! A special thank you also goes to our sponsors, who made this trip possible in the first place: CBRE Austria, IMMOunited GmbH, LEADERSNET Immobilien, DMV – della lucia medien & verlags GmbH
