Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programs gain momentum

November 26, 2025

Participation at FHWien der WKW expected to double again in 2025/26

Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are becoming an increasingly important part of international mobility at FHWien der WKW. Designed as short-term, innovative programs that combine virtual collaboration with an in-person phase at a host university, BIPs offer students from across Europe the chance to work together on interdisciplinary topics while expanding their international networks.

Participation among FHWien students has grown rapidly in recent years: from 9 participants in the 2021/22 academic year to 48 in 2024/25. The upward trend is set to continue, with numbers expected to reach around 100 students in 2025/26. So far, FHWien students have taken part in programs hosted in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Lithuania. Students from the Communication Management, Management & Entrepreneurship, Journalism & Media Management, Marketing & Sales Management and Human Resources & Organization Study Programs have already benefited from this opportunity.

For many students, BIPs are an ideal alternative to a semester abroad—particularly for those who cannot be away for a longer period due to work or personal commitments. The virtual phase that precedes the in-person mobility allows participants to start collaborating early while integrating the experience more easily into their schedules.

FHWien is not only sending more students abroad but is also strengthening its role as a host institution. In the summer semester 2025, FHWien organized four BIPs, welcoming a total of 160 students from 14 partner universities. Building on this success, another four BIPs are planned for the 2025/26 academic year. These will be organized by the Communication Management, Marketing & Sales Management, Management & Entrepreneurship and Tourism and Hospitality Management Study Programs.

Erasmus+ BIPs continue to enrich teaching and learning at FHWien, offering students and academic staff alike valuable insights into intercultural teamwork and providing excellent opportunities for networking within the European higher education community.
