Over the past month, the Competence Center for Business English has been actively sharing and gathering meaningful instructional design insights from northern to southern Europe.
Catherine Prewett-Schrempf and Linda Slattery traveled to Athens, Greece, to participate in the IATEFL BESIG conference. Their joint presentation explored how to reinforce human intelligence in business writing, highlighting ways to connect innovative teaching approaches with real-world communication needs.
Learning through Play
Meanwhile, Xiao Ming Zhu headed to the GALA Serious Games Conference in Utrecht, where he showcased The Mystery of EPP, a CCBE serious game for first-semester students. Participants explored and enjoyed the game, were challenged by its puzzles and quizzes, and shared ideas on its use in higher-education contexts, reinforcing how gamified learning can foster engagement, creative thinking, and intrinsic motivation.
Insights gained will continue to inform course development and support diverse and meaningful learning experiences for our students.
