The Bloomberg terminals available at FHWien der WKW are already being used successfully in several courses. They provide access to global financial and economic data, analyses, and the latest news, thereby supporting a practical deepening of the course’s content. Students work directly on the terminals in topic-specific exercises and learn to research, analyze, and interpret data for specific economic issues in a technically sound manner.
In doing so, they build up fundamental knowledge of how to use important Bloomberg functions while strengthening their analytical and data skills. Feedback from the courses so far has been very positive: students find the use of the terminals exciting, practical, and motivating.
Bloomberg in Class
The exercises can be tailored to suit different courses, covering topics such as financial data analysis in business administration, company analysis, IPOs, yield curves, or stock indices in financial markets, key figure-based planning in controlling, or the analysis of macroeconomic indicators in economics. Similarly, company-related case studies can be effectively supplemented with research, analysis, and discussion of information from Bloomberg. This allows Bloomberg to be used flexibly in various subject areas.
Thomas Kaufmann-Lerchl, Head of Financial Management Study Programs, describes the benefits as follows: “By using Bloomberg terminals, we can integrate the latest financial and economic data into our courses even more easily and directly. Students work with a professional tool, sharpen their data and analysis skills, and gain confidence in using a leading application in financial practice. This strengthens their understanding of markets and increases their digital confidence.“
