April 27, 2026 | 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Gartenbaukino am Parkring
1010 Vienna

Wien Geht doch and Jane’s Walk Vienna invite you to the Gartenbaukino on April 27, 2026, for a film screening followed by a panel discussion. The event marks the kickoff of the Jane’s Walk Festival 2026 and explores how to design a more equitable, pedestrian-friendly, and sustainable city.

5:00 PM Intervention by Wien Geht doch: We’re taking over urban space and creating a temporary pop-up crosswalk.

5:45 PM Jane’s Talk – Women Shape the City: How Can the Transportation Transition Succeed on the Ring?

Under the title “Women Shape the City – Perspectives on the City of Women: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” the event focuses on perspectives that view urban development as a social, political, and everyday task. The focus is on questions of equitable planning, the prerequisites for a pedestrian-friendly city, and the lessons learned from previous planning processes. Who plans the planning? What strategies and tools are needed to make Vienna more walkable for everyone? And what can be learned from past processes for the future of public space?

The panel discussion will feature Petra Jens, Pedestrian Commissioner for the City of Vienna; Julia Girardi-Hoog, Head of Gender Planning at the Vienna City Planning Department; Harald Frey from the Vienna University of Technology; Matthias Nagler from ÖAMTC; and Cornelia Dlabaja, Endowed Professor of Sustainable Urban and Tourism Research at FHWien der WKW and City Organizer of Jane’s Walk Vienna. Andreas Lindinger from Jane’s Walk Vienna will moderate the discussion.

The event is intended as an invitation to rethink the city together: from planning, activist, and scientific perspectives. It creates a space for discussion on how mobility, public space, and participation can be shaped in Vienna in the future.

6:50 PM Film screening at the Gartenbaukino: How Can the Mobility Transition Succeed?

The documentary “How Can the Mobility Transition Succeed – Metropolises in Motion” (52 min.) will be shown, offering international perspectives on the mobility transition, urban space, and livable urban futures. Following the screening, experts from government, research, planning, and practice will discuss the future of walking in Vienna and the question: How can the transportation transition succeed on the Ring?

The event will be held in German.
