Between algorithm, attitude, and attention
In the Alumni Talk, graduate Sophie Ströbitzer reports on her practical experience in journalism on TikTok and Instagram. She shows how journalistic work works on social media platforms and where the challenges lie.
Participants will learn:
- how algorithms, platform logic, and political influence shape journalistic content
- how journalistic criteria can be upheld even on these dynamic platforms
- how news is prepared for a young target audience
- how relevant topics are identified and news is optimized for short attention spans
- how journalistic offerings can compete with news influencers
About the speaker:
Sophie Ströbitzer works in the social media team at Zeit im Bild and has been hosting ZIB on TikTok and Instagram since August 2025.
She studied journalism and media management at FHWien der WKW. During her studies, she worked as an editor for the German-language edition of Forbes, where she hosted events such as the Women Summit and Under 30 Summit. She then went on to complete a master’s degree in International Development at the University of Vienna, during which she edited university magazines and wrote as a freelance journalist for Profil, among others.
