What does it take to make housing more affordable?
Why are rents rising so sharply, and what are the benefits of a “rent freeze”? Where is this stipulated, and who is actually “responsible” for housing in Austria?
We will answer these and other questions at the next Alumni Talk. Our speaker from the real estate industry will also give you humorous insights into the world of bureaucratic hurdles that make building and housing in Austria somewhat complicated.
About the Speaker:
Graduate Alexander Pawkowicz has been managing director of the “VÖPE – Association of Austrian Project Developers” since 2024. As a voluntary interest group, VÖPE represents Austria’s largest project developers, from the Federal Real Estate Company (BIG/ARE), UBM, STRABAG, SWIETELSKY, SORAVIA to HANDLER, HABAU, and HARING to 3SI, JP, and many others.
Pawkowicz graduated from FHWien der WKW in 2005 with a degree in real estate management as part of the first graduating class. He then held various management positions with a particular focus on corporate development and process optimization at the group level, as well as serving as managing director of various real estate companies in Central and Eastern Europe.
From 2015 to 2020, he also served part-time as a city councilor for the City of Vienna, where he contributed his expertise to the federal capital’s housing and planning committees, among others. Starting in 2020, he successfully oversaw the establishment of “Kollitsch & Soravia” in Vienna as its commercial law managing director.
This talk will be held in German. It will not be recorded.
