Creative audio productions are flourishing in Austria, and the Abend im Hörfeld invites you to discover the stories behind the sounds. On October 15, we welcome Michael Nikbakhsh and listen to his investigative podcast series “Dunkelkammer” (Darkroom), followed by a Q&A session on research, distribution, finding topics, and much more.
Audio productions are popping up all over Austria—and we love them! To learn with and from them, we created the event Abend im Hörfeld, named after our feature program Hörfeld. We invite audio producers to listen to their work together and then talk about research, production processes, journalistic challenges, storytelling, sound design, distribution, and anything else that interests us.
This time, we’re diving into the world of investigative audio: our guest is Michael Nikbakhsh, co-founder of the podcast Die Dunkelkammer – der Investigativ-Podcast (The Darkroom – The Investigative Podcast).
Together with Edith Meinhart and Christa Zöchling, Nikbakhsh researches the most pressing issues of our time: corruption, abuse of power, shell companies, freedom of the press. Die Dunkelkammer works with clear journalistic standards and the desire to look behind the facades.
At the event Abend im Hörfeld, we offer the opportunity to meet Michael Nikbakhsh in person, learn more about the origins and objectives of Die Dunkelkammer, and discuss the role of audio in investigative journalism. How do you research for the ears? What obstacles stand in the way—legal, technical, editorial? And how do you convey complex contexts in an exciting and understandable way in audio format?
Radio Radieschen …
is our training station with the terrestrial frequency 91.3fm in Vienna and also broadcasts in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland via DAB+. In the training program, students in the Journalism & Media Management department learn about radio production in theory and practice. The results can be heard in the programs Kulturcollage, Tonwerkstatt, and Radiolab. Students with relevant prior experience can also produce their own programs and broadcast them live or recorded.
About the Radio Radieschen editorial team
Outside of teaching, our radio editorial team ensures quality content! Programs such as Wissenschaftsradio, Start Me Up – das GründerInnenmagazin, #Vienna, and the feature format Hörfeld are produced by the two editors Hannah Jutz and Vincent Leb under the direction of Caroline Schranz.
