Questions & answers about construction work at the wko campus

Which parts of the wko campus at Währinger Gürtel 97 are affected?

The wko campus is divided into three sections: A, B and C. FHWien der WKW primarily uses section B. Section C is most affected by the construction work. However, work is also being carried out in section B; in addition, the reconstruction in section C may affect section B.

Why is the wko campus being renovated?

The Vienna Chamber of Commerce (WKW) is currently modernizing the wko campus, its central educational location at Währinger Gürtel 97, which is also home to FHWien der WKW. Among other things, training kitchens are being installed for the MODUL tourism schools.

Part of the wko campus – section C – is being fundamentally remodeled. FHWien der WKW is mainly located in section B. It is taking advantage of this opportunity to refurbish classrooms and other rooms.

These measures will provide students with even better equipped classrooms and learning zones. This will help them achieve their learning goals. In addition, they will be able to use a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure in the future.

Lecturers will also benefit from the re-equipping of the classrooms and will then find an optimal environment for teaching.

FHWien der WKW is also getting an additional location: The EduSpace in the 9th district is just a few minutes’ walk from the wko campus and is expected to be completed in 2024. Among other things, additional learning zones for students will be set up there.

Which areas of FHWien der WKW are affected by construction noise?

Designated classrooms and other rooms at FHWien der WKW will not be available for use at the start of the semester in September 2022, or will only be available to a limited extent. During the course of the academic year, classrooms will gradually be completed. This will steadily increase the number of rooms available to students and lecturers.

What solutions are available for courses when noise is expected in the designated classroom?

If courses cannot be held in a classroom due to construction noise, the course will be moved to another quiet classroom or to the Internet. In such cases, the FHWien der WKW team will inform students and lecturers as early as possible in order to facilitate their planning.

Not in all cases will it be known in advance when and where construction noise will occur. In this case, the FHWien team depends on timely information from the construction management. In any case, we will look for a solution as soon as possible if courses cannot be held in the designated classroom due to construction noise.

Could exams also be affected by the construction work at the wko campus?

A quiet environment is especially important during exams. The FHWien team will do its best to prepare suitable examination rooms for students and teachers. In case of doubt, the exam will be moved to a quiet alternative location nearby or to the internet. Students and teachers will receive information about this as early as possible.

Until when can noise and other impairments due to construction work be expected?

The construction work at the wko campus is scheduled for completion in June 2023. Until then, construction noise and the blocking of classrooms may affect the study activities.

We ask for your understanding and will do our best to ensure that your studies or teaching activities are affected as little as possible by the construction work on the wko campus. We will inform you as soon as possible about relocations of courses to other rooms or to the internet.

If you have any questions, please contact the Service Point of FHWien der WKW.
