From Concept to the Final Online Course: E-Learning Created by Students

July 15, 2026

From the classroom straight to practical application: That’s how sixth-semester students in the Bachelor’s program Human Resource Management worked in the course “E-Training & Learning Management Systems.” During the summer semester of 2026, they developed e-learning courses under the guidance of external instructors Reinhard Fröhlich, Thomas Sommer, and Ronald Riegler. In the process, they immediately applied the knowledge they had previously acquired and translated it, step by step, into concrete learning products.

From Theory to Real Business

The course focused on a clear, practical approach: Students not only explored the theory behind instructional design, digital knowledge transfer, and learning management systems, but also applied this knowledge directly to their own projects. From the initial idea through the instructional structure to media production and technical implementation in a learning management system, they created a product that is relevant to professional practice.

Award-Winning E-Learning Projects

In just a few weeks, the groups developed various e-learning courses, which were presented to a jury of experts and awarded prizes at a closing event in the Audimax at FHWien der WKW. The award-winning projects demonstrated the wide range of ways in which digital learning formats can be used and how creatively the students applied theoretical principles to practical learning environments.

Among the award-winning projects were:

  • an onboarding concept for the fictional café “Café EmMa³”
  • a course on “Digital Wellbeing”
  • an educational program on “Maternity Leave & Parental Leave”
  • and passenger conflict resolution training for Wiener Linien

Digital Tools as Part of the Learning Process

To develop their courses, the students used a wide range of digital tools and platforms: Moodle served as the learning management system, H5P enabled interactive learning content, and Canva was used for design and graphic layout. For audio content, they used Audacity and Adobe Podcast, among other tools, while DaVinci Resolve was used for video production. In addition, the groups worked with Adobe Captivate, iseazy.com for SCORM content, and tools for AI-supported content creation.

The students were able to immediately test and further develop their understanding of e-learning, digital pedagogy, and learning technologies. This not only resulted in innovative learning offerings but also in skills that our graduates can apply directly in their professional practice.
