Research at the Department of Management at FHWien der WKW supports companies in mastering current challenges and expanding their potential for innovation – even during difficult economic times.

The focus is not just on the issues of large corporations, but also on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Research in the Financial Management Study Programs

Research in the Study Programs is conducted jointly with the Competence Center for Business Controlling and Accounting. In general, the core subjects of the study programs are covered in four subject areas:

  • Auditing, Accounting, International Accounting
  • Financial Markets and Sustainability
  • Controlling and Business Analytics
  • Tax Consulting, Tax Audit Effectiveness, Tax Compliance

Research in the Human Resources & Organization Study Programs

The Study Programs focus on the following research areas:

  • Strategic Change Capability, Organizational Learning, Systemic Organizational Development, Intervention Research
  • “Trust in AI” and the use of artificial intelligence in human resources development
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion management, change and transformation in HRM and in organizations
  • Digitalization in vocational training, promotion of cooperation between learning venues in dual vocational training through the use of digital forms of teaching and learning

Research in the Management & Entrepreneurship Study Programs

The research activities of the study programs are geared towards a holistic and networked approach to business management issues and deal with the following research topics

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Sustainable corporate management
  • Family businesses

Research in the Real Estate Management Study Programs

The study program’s research focuses on the current challenges facing the real estate industry.

  • Fields of innovation of the Endowed Chair for Sustainable Real Estate Development (Building culture & governance, economics & financing, Integral engineering science, Decision-making)
  • Professional field research (Energy certificate, Renovation passport, EU building efficiency directive, Digitalization of the professional fields)
  • Sustainability (Socio-cultural & technical aspects, Definitions of other institutions, Location development with protected areas, spatial planning and preservation of green spaces)

Research in the Tourism & Hospitality Management Study Programs

Rethinking tourism. Driving change. Tourism is an interdisciplinary field of research in which approaches and theories from different disciplines must be taken into account. The primary research focuses are in the following areas:
