Career opportunities in tourism: First Career Fair for dual study program students

January 24, 2024

On January 19, 2024 the Tourism & Hospitality Management Study Programs hosted the Career Fair for the students of the dual Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management at FHWien der WKW for the first time. Almost 50 top companies from the tourism industry presented themselves to the students of the dual study program for tourism, which is unique in Austria.

From the hotel industry to travel agencies, congress organizers and the airline industry: from Hotel Sacher to Mondial, the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) and Austrian Airlines. These and many other practical partners from a wide range of tourism sectors showed the interested students what career opportunities await them.

50 top tourism businesses showcase themselves

The companies introduced themselves on stage with 3-minute pitch presentations. After the presentations, the students had the opportunity to make direct contact with the HR managers of these companies, find out about job opportunities and get to know their potential employers. The selection of participating companies was very large. This did not make it easy for our students to decide on a practice partner.

About Austria’s first and unique dual Bachelor’s study program in tourism

Since the winter semester 2023/24, FHWien der WKW has been offering a dual study program for the first time: The Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management is now being offered in this particularly practice-oriented form. From the second year of study, theoretical phases at the university alternate with practical phases in a tourism company. The Career Fair was organized for the first time for these practical phases. This gave students the opportunity to get to know the companies and have enough time to decide on a practical partner who will accompany them for the next four semesters. During the practical phases, students spend half the week at the company and the other half at the UAS.

After three years, students not only have an academic degree in their hands, but also two years of relevant professional experience,” explains Florian Aubke, Head of Tourism & Hospitality Management Study Programs at FHWien der WKW. It is the only dual tourism study program at an Austrian university to date.
