Insights into real estate practice, digital technologies, and diverse career prospects: On October 2, 2026, students from the Real Estate Management study programs at FHWien der WKW visited the BUWOG headquarters in Vienna. The field trip provided an opportunity to learn about various fields of work in the real estate industry and to engage in conversation with experts from different areas of the company.
Experience Real Estate Projects Virtually
Following a presentation on BUWOG as an employer, the program included a virtual tour of a real estate project. Using virtual reality (VR), the students were able to explore a property digitally and learn about the potential applications of modern technologies.
The tour was led by experts from Development Management and the Building Information Modeling (BIM) department. This digital workflow makes it possible to consolidate building information into a single shared model and use it across different project phases. This part of the program highlighted how digital technologies are transforming planning, presentation, and collaboration in the real estate industry.
Property Management and New Career Paths
Another focus was on the responsibilities and job profiles in real estate management. This field combines economic, technical, and organizational activities — ranging from property management and the coordination of maintenance measures to collaboration with service providers.
The new job profile of “climate manager” was also introduced. This underscores the growing importance of sustainability, energy efficiency, and climate protection in real estate management and demonstrates how traditional job profiles are evolving.
A guided tour of the BUWOG headquarters on Vienna’s Rathausstraße rounded out the program.
The field trip showed the students just how diverse the real estate industry is and the role that digitalization, sustainability, and various professional skills play in it. At the same time, the visit offered the opportunity to connect course content with concrete insights into professional practice.
