In conversation with experts: “Human resources management” in a start-up and a non-profit organization

March 10, 2021

Our students in the Bachelor’s program in Human Resources Management are looking to answer the question “Is HR management really the same as HR management” and what differences there are, for example, in a start-up or in a non-profit organization, as part of their 6th semester in the elective HR Management and Law. To support them, we invited experts from the business world to share their experiences.

In the 6th semester of our Bachelor’s program in Human Resources Management, our students choose one of three electives. One of these is the elective HR Management and Law, for which we have again invited experts from the business world to give guest lectures this year.

In a first guest lecture, we had the pleasure to welcome Andreas Geiblinger. Mr. Geiblinger, who currently works in the field of international HR, told us about his experiences in the role of HR manager in different contexts, with a special focus on his time in a start-up. Here, for example, he had to accompany a rapid growth and set up suitable HR processes.

In the second guest presentation, Mrs. Isabelle Weisswasser-Jorrot told us about her work as HR Director at Ärzte ohne Grenzen. She shared with us her own experiences in both the profit and non-profit sectors. At Ärzte ohne Grenzen, for example, it is an important task to ensure that emergency personnel for crisis areas are recruited and developed as quickly as possible.

Both in a start-up and in the non-profit sector, a high level of intrinsic motivation is needed. Our guest speakers not only shared their experiences with us, but were also open to questions from our students.

We would like to thank Mrs. Weisswasser-Jorrot and Mr. Geiblinger for their versatile insights. The stories from practice form valuable supplements to what we learned in theory.

We look forward to our further guest lectures as part of this course.
