Interest among FHWien der WKW staff in international exchange has reached an all-time high: with 42 Erasmus+ staff mobilities in the 2025/26 academic year, the university set a new record – an increase of 40 per cent compared with the previous year. One of the lecturers who took part was Maija Worek (pictured), who gained valuable international teaching experience during a teaching stay at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.
Behind this impressive growth are valuable experiences, fresh perspectives and opportunities to build international connections.
The record extends across the entire university: staff from all nine study programs and four other departments took advantage of the opportunity to go abroad with Erasmus+. In total, the mobilities took participants to twelve European countries. The most popular destinations included Belgium, Finland, France, the Netherlands and Spain, while individual mobilities also took participants to countries such as Bulgaria, Italy and Georgia.
Around two-thirds of the stays involved teaching at a partner university, while one-third focused on staff training and exchange with international colleagues. These exchanges give lecturers the opportunity to explore new pedagogical approaches, innovative teaching methods and the latest developments in their fields, and to incorporate these insights into their own teaching. At the same time, they foster valuable networks and collaborations that promote knowledge transfer and, in the long term, also benefit students. Erasmus+ thus offers staff a wide range of opportunities to gain fresh inspiration for teaching, research and administration while continuing to expand FHWien der WKW’s international network.
Who knows which country will be the next addition to FHWien der WKW’s Erasmus+ map? We can’t wait to find out!
