FHWien der WKW and ISJE cordially invite you to the lecture series “Journalism in the Global South.” Joining us live online is Mike Anane, an independent environmental journalist and recipient of the United Nations Environment Program’s Global 500 Award. He will discuss the environmental and social consequences of the global fashion industry, with a particular focus on fast fashion and textile waste.

Millions of tonnes of discarded clothing are disposed of, incinerated or exported from Europe to countries such as Ghana every year. Mike Anane, an independent environmental journalist and recipient of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Global 500 Award, examines the environmental and social consequences of the global fashion industry, with a particular focus on fast fashion and textile waste. Drawing on his own reporting and research, he highlights the devastating impact of our consumption on local communities and the environment. The lecture also explores potential solutions and what is needed to tackle the global textile waste crisis.
The event will be moderated by Mag. Christina Schröder, Coordinator of the Information Centre for Journalism & Development Policy (ISJE). Mike Anane will join the event live online for his lecture. Afterwards, attendees will have the opportunity to ask him questions directly and engage in a discussion with him.
