MA (CE) International Sustainability Communication

Sustainability is at the core of our mission at Oatly, where we want to drive a systemic shift towards a more plant-based, sustainable food system. I firmly believe that we need more professionals with understanding of both sustainability and communications to create the sustainability movement we need and to lead the way to a more sustainable future. So I was obviously honored, when I was approached to contribute in the development of the MA (CE) International Sustainability Communication. Sustainability is a fascinating, complex and demanding topic and I wanted to ensure that students would be able to see interlinkages between the problems, the root causes and solutions to some of the deep issues at hand. I've been very inspired by seeing how the program has been developed, and excited to see the program starting in 2022.

At Mondi our approach is to be sustainable by design so I was delighted to be able to contribute to the development of the MA (CE) International Sustainability Communication. For me, it was particularly important to ensure that the program includes a module of Sustainability Reporting, an area which is becoming more and more important, not just at the Corporate level but for National and International reporting standards. It is great to see that it is now incorporated into the curriculum. I think this is a truly exciting Master's program.

At sgreening, we help our clients chart their own path to sustainability and prepare them for the green economy of today and tomorrow. We then aim to increase the visibility of their transformation with green marketing. I am delighted to see that the MA (CE) in International Sustainability Communication will provide students with the tools to effectively communicate sustainability without falling into the trap of greenwashing. The program is clearly about real transformation and providing students with the understanding they need to be able to be the change-makers in our society. I am very excited to be able to shape this concept of education with other experts in this field and contribute whatever it takes to make our impact on this world more sustainable.

Corporate communication and marketing tools are double-edged swords. Companies can be a force for good by using these tools to address pressing social and environmental issues. However, these powerful tools can also be used for morally questionable purposes, including greenwashing and illegitimate lobbying.

Building on both practitioner insights as well as on theoretical knowledge the MA (CE) in International Sustainability Communication will help managers to better understand what it means to communicate responsibly and thus to meet stakeholder demands that are essential for sustainable business.

I was intrigued to hear about the program MA (CE) International Sustainability Communication, linking these 2 disciplines which I haven´t seen in other universities in Austria. It is so important to be able to communicate FOR and ABOUT sustainability and for the Communication experts to have a profound understanding of the strategic importance of sustainability. I was happy to be able to take an overall view of the program from the Communications perspective and ensure that all those important competencies and skills that organizations need are thoroughly covered.
