Vienna, March 27, 2026 – For the third time, the Human Resources & Organization study programs at FHWien der WKW are hosting TransformationCamp. The event’s partner is fifty1, a management consulting firm specializing in systemic organizational development in the digital age. The two-day event on April 16 and 17, 2026, will provide insights into topics such as organizational development, change management, new forms of work, and artificial intelligence. The innovative “Un-Conference” format allows participating experts, practitioners, and interested individuals from various industries to engage in intensive dialogue and design their own sessions and workshops.

Shaping Change Together

Organizations are facing profound changes. Digitalization, artificial intelligence, and new ways of working are challenging companies to rethink their structures, processes, and leadership. The TransformationCamp 2026, held on the campus of FHWien der WKW, offers a platform for open discussion and collaborative learning.

Three keynote speeches will provide insights into shaping transformation processes:

As Minister of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rudi Anschober had to make critical decisions under enormous pressure—experiences that have shaped his views on leadership, responsibility, and transformation. His keynote speech is titled after his newly published book, “ErMUTigung – Wie Veränderungen gelingen können und warum wir stärker sind, als wir glauben”.

Marie Luise Menzel, COO at Lufthansa Industry Solutions, discusses in her keynote “Brave Maneuvers to Reach Bold Futures” how courageous moves shape the future.

Kosima Kovar has founded several companies and has been named twice to the “Forbes 30 Under 30” list. The graduate of FHWien der WKW has titled her keynote “Be Your Own Asset,” in which she explains how to become a decisive force within an organization.

Artists bring Transformation to Life

To truly understand change, you have to experience and feel it. At TransformationCamp, the contributions of Austrian artists make this possible.

Anna Buchegger is an Austrian musician who enjoys combining traditional dialect music with modern, avant-garde sounds. Through her musical performance, she will bring transformation to life.

In her show “Mach es richtig falsch” (Do it wrong in the right way), cabaret artist Michaela Obertscheider takes a humorous look at our culture of error.

Discussion on Transformation Processes

“TransformationCamp creates space for open exchange on change processes in organizations and helps ideas take root,” explains Christina Schweiger, Head of Human Resources & Organization Study Programs at FHWien der WKW. She is delighted about the renewed collaboration between FHWien der WKW and fifty1: “Together, we are creating a platform where people from different organizations can exchange ideas, learn from one another, and take bold steps on the path to transformation.”

Un-Conference: Knowledge Transfer on Equal Terms

In 2026, TransformationCamp will once again utilize the “Un-Conference” format, which combines keynotes by experts with an interactive camp format. The maximum of 200 participants will bring their own questions to the table, discuss their experiences, and jointly develop new perspectives for organizations in transition. This participatory approach enables knowledge transfer on equal footing and fosters networking among participants.

Inspiration for Organizations in Transition

The TransformationCamp is aimed at executives, organizational development specialists, HR professionals, and anyone concerned with the future of organizations. The event will take place on April 16 and 17, 2026, at FHWien der WKW and is organized in collaboration with the transformation network fifty1.

Interviews with the Keynote Speakers

The keynote speakers at TransformationCamp 2026 will be available for interviews during the event. If you are interested, the FHWien der WKW press team will be happy to facilitate contact:

Vienna, February 20, 2026 – A team from FHWien der WKW has achieved overall victory at the 18th European Mise en Place Cup (EMCup) on February 15 and 16, 2026, in Amsterdam. The students from Vienna prevailed against teams from 28 universities across Europe. The theme of the EMCup 2026 was “Changing Course – Cranking up the heat in F&B.” Over two days, the participants developed concepts for the food and beverage sector in hotels and presented them to an international jury of experts. The EMCup is one of the most important competitions for universities in the field of hotel and hospitality management in Europe.

“OMA” Connects Generations through Cuisine

The winning team from FHWien der WKW – Laura Viscuso, Anahita Shirbaz, Marlon Geserick, and Veronika Sophia Ober – impressed with “OMA – Opportunity for More Authenticity.” The idea behind the concept developed by the students, all four of whom are completing the Bachelor’s degree program in Tourism Management, is as follows: Grandmothers from the region organize culinary workshops and food experiences for guests in hotel kitchens. This gives older people a platform to pass on their knowledge and stories. At the same time, guests gain insights into family recipes and traditions. In this way, “OMA” combines hospitality with social responsibility.

Proof of the High Quality and Practical Relevance of the Degree Programs

“I would like to congratulate our students on their extraordinary success at the EMCup 2026. With their ‘OMA’ concept, they are building bridges between generations. They are impressively demonstrating how innovative strength and social responsibility can be combined in the hotel industry,” says FHWien CEO Stephan Gasser. “The fact that our team was able to prevail against competition from all over Europe in this prestigious competition underscores the high quality and practical relevance of our degree programs in tourism and hospitality management.”

Lecturers Peter Klinger and Andrew Pullen played a key role in this success. They prepared the students for participation in the EMCup and supported them during the competition in Amsterdam.

About the EMCup

The European Mise en Place Cup (EMCup) is a competition for students in the field of hotel and hospitality management. Teams from selected universities develop solutions to current challenges facing the industry and present them to experts from the fields of practice and teaching. The EMCup also serves as a platform for international networking and exchange with industry representatives.

FHWien der WKW’s Degree Programs in Tourism and Hospitality Management

With two practice-oriented degree programs, FHWien der WKW is a leading provider of academic education in tourism and hospitality management in Austria.

The Bachelor’s program in Tourism Management is offered both as a full-time program and as a dual program.

In the dual version, students are already employed by a company alongside their studies and gain industry-specific professional experience.

The Master’s program in Urban Tourism & Visitor Economy Management is conducted in English. It qualifies students to design sustainable urban tourism and balance the needs of guests, the population, and the economy.

Applications for a place on the tourism degree programs at FHWien der WKW can be submitted until March 30, 2026.

Hannah Jutz and Vincent Leb from Radio Radieschen, the training station of FHWien der WKW, were honored for their feature “Kein Zurück: Fürs Klima ins Gefängnis” about a climate activist.

Vienna, January 29, 2026 – How do we, as a society, deal with protest? And where do we stand in the climate crisis? These are the questions Hannah Jutz and Vincent Leb from Radio Radieschen explored in depth together with Elisabeth Bauer – also a FHWien der WKW alumna – and Anna Muhr. The result is a powerful portrait of Laila Fuisz, an activist with the “Letzte Generation” (“Last Generation”). For this work, the four radio producers were selected from more than 170 submissions and received the 28th Adult Education Radio Award on January 22, 2026, in the category “Sustainability and Future Skills.”

Portrait of a Climate Activist

The feature offers listeners insight into Laila Fuisz’s everyday life – caught between protest, jail, and court dates. As part of her climate protests, she repeatedly glued herself to the street. In doing so, she broke laws and received fines totaling several thousand euros. Because she cannot pay them, she has repeatedly had to serve default prison sentences in lieu of payment. The award-winning radio piece not only portrays a climate activist, but also raises the broader question of the state of the climate crisis and our planet.

The jury praised the feature as “committed, authentic, and courageous.” The piece does not shy away from controversy. It stays close to the protagonist without pandering, and demonstrates “a strong journalistic stance.”

Successful FHWien der WKW Alumni

“This award recognizes the outstanding journalistic achievement of Elisabeth Bauer, Hannah Jutz, and Vincent Leb,” says Daniela Süssenbacher, Head of Journalism & Media Management study programs at FHWien der WKW. “With their feature, they addressed a socially relevant topic with great sensitivity and professional precision. The thoroughness of their research and the compelling execution show the high level at which our degree programs and their lecturers and staff operate – and how effectively they teach the craft of responsible, excellent journalism.”

Recognition for High-Quality Journalism

From more than 170 submitted productions by Austrian radio stations, the jury selected those contributions that present socially relevant topics in a well-founded, accessible way and with a high adult-education standard – exemplifying how education can become audible in times of profound social change.

The Adult Education Radio Award is presented in five categories: “Literature, Culture, and the Arts,” “Eduard Ploier Award for Economic, Democratic, and Political Education,” “Science Communication, Technical Education, and Digitalization,” “Sustainability and Future Skills,” and “Human Rights and Society.” The jury includes experts from journalism, media studies, and adult education.

Listen to the Award-Winning Radio Radieschen Feature

Many programs produced by FHWien der WKW students, as well as the Radio Radieschen editorial team, are available to listen to on Spotify, iTunes, SoundCloud, and Podcaster.de. Here is the link to the award-winning feature:

About the Journalism & Media Management study programs at FHWien der WKW

The Journalism & Media Management study programs at FHWien der WKW have been offering practice-oriented degree programs for entry into quality journalism for over 20 years. Three programs – two Bachelor’s and one Master’s – provide journalistic know-how in content production and media management. The focus is on a close integration of theory and practice. More than two thirds of the lecturers come from the media industry, bringing extensive professional experience into the classroom and ensuring a particularly hands-on education. Applications for FHWien der WKW degree programs starting in September 2026 are open until March 30, 2026.

Vienna, January 27, 2026 – For the fifth time, FHWien der WKW hosted its SDG Day on January 22, 2026. Students, lecturers, and researchers from the university of applied sciences, together with invited guests, discussed current challenges and potential solutions related to sustainability in business. A particular focus was on how to lead companies responsibly and how to communicate corporate sustainability efforts credibly. National Bank Governor Martin Kocher delivered the keynote on monetary policy in a changing world. The SDG Day is named after the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sustainability as a Strategic Priority at FHWien der WKW

“Responsibility and sustainability are embedded in FHWien der WKW’s strategy. We foster awareness among our students of the importance of these topics and educate them to become specialists and leaders who act responsibly from an environmental, social, and economic perspective. The SDG Day also serves this purpose by showcasing student projects with a sustainability focus and creating a space for dialogue on sustainable business practices,” explains Stephan Gasser, CEO of FHWien der WKW.

Keynote on Monetary Policy in a Changing World

A highlight of the SDG Day was the keynote by Martin Kocher, Governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, delivered to a full Audimax at FHWien der WKW. Kocher titled his talk “Economic Challenges and Monetary Policy in a Changing World.” He provided insights into the responsibilities of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, the Eurosystem, and the economic situation in Austria and the European Union. He then answered questions from participants.

A Broad Range of Student Projects on Sustainability

The remainder of the SDG Day centered on presentations of student projects. While students from the Tourism & Hospitality Management study programs highlighted trends in sustainable tourism through videos and podcasts, students in Communication Management explored the tension between sustainability communication and greenwashing. Students from the Management & Entrepreneurship study programs presented projects on “Responsible Corporate Governance,” “Strategic Change,” and “Trends in Financing.”

SDG Awards for Outstanding Theses

Another highlight was the presentation of SDG Awards recognizing outstanding Bachelor’s and Master’s theses on sustainability. The award-winning theses by FHWien der WKW alumni addressed topics including green rebranding, diversity-oriented advertising, inclusive leadership of multicultural teams, and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards.

Hands-On Workshops and Simulation Activities

Visitors to the SDG Day could also take part in an interactive simulation game and a workshop. In the “SDG 2030” simulation, participants experienced the implementation of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals by simulating global development through 2030. In the climate journalism workshop led by Falter journalist Katharina Kropshofer, participants learned how to report on climate change without triggering fatalism or resignation.

FHWien der WKW’s degree programs stand out for their strong practical focus, enabling students to build close connections with companies while they study. “Two-thirds of our lecturers are experts and executives from business. Our students benefit from the experience they gain in their careers,” explains FHWien CEO Stephan Gasser. All Bachelor’s programs offer basic training in business administration, and all Master’s programs prepare students for management roles, regardless of their field of study. “Digital transformation – with artificial intelligence as a key aspect – also plays a major role in all degree programs. This is because it is profoundly changing every professional field,” adds Gasser.

How to Secure a Place to Study at FHWien der WKW

Once this challenge has been overcome, further steps follow depending on the chosen degree program, such as an admissions interview, an assessment center or a presentation.

FHWien der WKW caters to the needs of this growing group and offers several Bachelor’s programs on both a full-time and part-time basis. Other Bachelor’s programs and all Master’s programs are offered exclusively on a part-time basis. “Students can work through some of the course content online – whenever and wherever it suits them.

Vienna, November 18, 2025 – With the presentation of its Awards for Innovative Teaching, FHWien der WKW recognizes outstanding didactic projects each year, underscoring the high value it places on teaching. On Thursday, November 13, 2025, this year’s award recipients were announced.

A total of 30 submissions demonstrated the strong interest in didactic development at FHWien der WKW. The university’s internal Didactics Working Group, led by Head of Academic Affairs Beate Huber and higher education didactics expert Olivia Vrabl, reviewed all entries and reached the following decision:

The Two Winners of the 2025 Teaching Awards

This year’s winners are lecturers Tonina Liriel Aurel and Elka Xharo, who were recognized for their teaching concepts in the same subject area – statistics. “The jury also wished to highlight the fact that the content of one and the same subject can be taught successfully using completely different methods,” explained Head of Academic Affairs Beate Huber.

Tonina Liriel Aurel, from the Human Resources & Organization study programs, made a subject often perceived as dry more accessible in her course “Statistics,” part of the Master’s program in Organizational & Human Resources Development. Her course design, consistently aligned with the practical value of a quantitative research concept, impressed with its clear structure and her strong commitment as a lecturer. Individualized feedback ensured that students achieved the learning objectives.

Elka Xharo, from the Digital Economy study programs, aimed to make statistics comprehensible in her course “Business Data Analytics and Formal Foundations,” part of the Bachelor’s program in Digital Business, by employing a wide range of teaching methods. A playful approach, innovative use of AI, and a gamified examination format designed as a virtual adventure created a high level of interaction and delighted the jury.

Recognition Awards for Four Teaching Projects

The high number of submissions prompted the jury to grant additional recognition awards for other outstanding projects:

In their course “Fields of Corporate Communication: Marketing” in the Bachelor’s program in Corporate Communication, Leyla Tavernaro-Haidarian and David Dobrowsky created an interactive didactic environment that addressed the highly topical issue of AI in marketing through a well-balanced mix of distance learning and in-person sessions. A consistently well-received oral exam ensured the achievement of learning outcomes.

In his course “International Strategies – Case Study” in the Bachelor’s program in Management – Entrepreneurship, Aydar Muslimov used HBR case studies to explore ethical dilemmas such as corruption in corporate leadership. The integration of AI, along with discussions about the ethical aspects of AI use, resulted in a teaching concept that reflects the latest developments in the field.

In the Master’s program in Organizational & Human Resources Development, Florian Schrenk taught the content of his course “Labor and Social Law” through practical exercises and discussions of common reasoning errors that can impede learning success. The jury praised the assessment criteria written in legal language, which suited the subject matter and provided a didactically coherent framework for students’ skills development.

In their course “Business Case Skills and Business Case” in the Bachelor’s program in Management – Entrepreneurship, Sebastian Diermayr and Andrew Pullen prepared students for their presentations through feedforward sessions. Interactive methods and the targeted use of AI fostered a deeper understanding of professional terminology in business contexts. Students then demonstrated this understanding in presentations tailored to their respective audiences.

As part of the award ceremony, the recognized projects were presented, and participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues.

Vienna, October 16, 2025 – The Austrian manufacturing industry remains under considerable pressure. As the seventh edition of the TU study “Made in Austria: Future of Production in Austria” 2025 shows, the mood in the industry is still tense and competitiveness is declining. At the same time, however, many companies are actively driving innovation, digitalization, and sustainability.
“Despite difficult conditions, many companies are actively working on sustainable solutions,” emphasizes study director Sebastian Schlund, Head of Research Area Industrial Engineering and Research at the Institute of Management Science (IMW) at TU Wien and Managing Director of Fraunhofer Austria. The results of the survey, in which more than 100 executives from 94 manufacturing companies in Austria participated again in 2025, were presented on October 13, 2025, as part of the “Made in Austria IndustrieFORUM 2025.”.

Tense business situation and declining competitiveness

The global economy remains unstable. In addition to protectionist tendencies and geopolitical tensions, high per-unit labor costs are also shaping the operating environment for manufacturing companies. Only 50.5% of companies rate their current business situation as positive—the lowest figure since the survey began in 2019. The assessment of international competitiveness is even more pronounced: 85.4% of respondents see a deterioration in location conditions over the last five years. This means that domestic industry is struggling not only with economic weaknesses but also with structural competitive disadvantages.

“The study clearly shows that the competitiveness of Austrian industry is under pressure,” says Sabine Hesse, Managing Director of Metaltechnology Austria. High costs, complex regulations, and global uncertainties are weighing on companies. At the same time, there is growing pressure to reposition themselves.” This assessment reflects the growing concern that Austria could continue to lose its appeal as a production location without a targeted location policy and promotion of innovation.

Employment outlook: Decline expected in Austria

There are also signs of a decline in employment figures. Only 44.7% of companies expect employment to increase at Austrian locations over the next five years, while 55.3% anticipate a decline. Production and production-related areas are particularly affected. Globally, expectations remain more stable, indicating a continuing shift of production capacities abroad.
Hannes Hunschofsky, Managing Director of EIT Manufacturing East, warns: “The expected decline in employment at Austrian locations is a serious signal. We must combine training, technology use, and location policy in order to secure the industrial base.” He thus points to the need to link education, research, and industrial policy more closely in order to preserve jobs in high-tech industries in the long term.

Automation and AI as a response to the shortage of skilled workers

With 482 industrial robots per 10,000 employees, Austria is above the international average, sending a clear signal about the increasing level of automation. Despite this development, human labor remains highly important: 95.7% of companies consider it to be very important or extremely important. At the same time, the use of AI is increasing significantly: 42.4% of companies already use machine learning, particularly in quality management, production planning, and maintenance. The new EU AI Act is perceived by a majority of respondents as a helpful framework for innovation and legal certainty.

For Walter Mayrhofer, Head of Research at FHWien der WKW, one thing is clear: “Automation and AI are by no means an end in themselves – they are crucial for addressing the shortage of skilled workers and ensuring long-term competitiveness. It is important to use these technologies in a human-centered way.” This makes it clear that the digitalization of production is not at odds with the importance of human labor, but rather – when designed correctly – can specifically strengthen its potential.

Circular economy as a model for the future

More and more companies consider the circular economy to be a viable business model. In 2025, the companies surveyed will generate an average of 15% of their revenue from circular processes. Companies that generate 25–50% of their revenue from circular processes are experiencing particularly strong growth. This means that ecological transformation is increasingly becoming a factor for economic success.

The innovative strength is stable, supply chains are recovering

Despite economic uncertainties, 83% of companies rate their innovative strength positively. In addition, 67% report shorter delivery times. This indicates stabilized value chains and improved operational efficiency. Challenges remain in making working hours more flexible. Only 37.1% of companies report a high willingness to work shifts.

Conclusion: Between pressure and creative drive

The “Made in Austria IndustriePANEL 2025” shows that Austria’s industry is facing profound structural changes. Although rising costs, a shortage of skilled workers, and uncertainties are dampening competitiveness, innovation, automation, and sustainability are also opening up new perspectives. The research partners see this as a sign that Austria’s industry is ready not only to cope with change, but also to actively shape it.

“Made in Austria: Future of Production in Austria” is a annual study published by the Institute of Management Sciences (IMW) at the Vienna University of Technology in cooperation with the Institute for Digital Transformation and Strategy (IDS) at FHWien der WKW, Fraunhofer Austria, EIT Manufacturing East and Metaltechnology Austria.
The aim of the study is to provide a regular and methodologically sound presentation of the status quo and future expectations of domestic industry. The topics of automation, digitalization, assistance systems, and sustainability play a central role in this.

Vienna, October 1, 2025 – At the ceremony for the Journalism Young Talent Award 2025, once again projects dealing with socially relevant issues were in the spotlight – ranging from digital loneliness and relationships with artificial intelligence to questions of cultural identity in the Basque Country. With this award, FHWien der WKW supports aspiring journalists and provides them with a platform to present their work to a broader audience and to the media industry.

From the 82 entries, a professional jury selected the best works in the categories Radio & Audio, TV & Video, Text and Multimedia. In addition, a special prize was awarded for the best final thesis. The ceremony was hosted once again by moderator Patrick Sieber, himself a journalism student at FHWien der WKW.

Supporting Young Journalists at Career Entry

The Journalism Young Talent Award is endowed with € 500,- per category and was once again awarded in 2025 with the support of strong media partners. Der Standard sponsored the Text category, with Deputy Editor-in-Chief Nana Siebert presenting the award. Kurier supported the Multimedia category, presented by Deputy Editor-in-Chief Christoph Schwarz. New as a partner was ORF, which supported the categories Radio & Audio as well as TV & Video. The awards were handed over by Konrad Mitschka from ORF’s Public Value Competence Center. Another new partner was the Austrian Media Academy (ÖMA), which contributed a seat in one of its seminars as the prize in the Best Thesis category – in addition to the prize money awarded by FHWien der WKW.

Impulses for the Future of Journalism

“The Journalism Young Talent Award shows every year how passionately and with what thematic diversity young journalists address societal developments,” said Daniela Süssenbacher, Head of Journalism & Media Management Study Programs and chair of the jury. “This year, we were particularly impressed by the courage with which the young talents tackled some of the most urgent and complex issues of our time. The award demonstrates that the next generation of journalism is ready to take responsibility and to bring fresh perspectives into the public debate.”

Jury of Journalists and Experts from FHWien der WKW

The works were evaluated by an independent jury consisting of renowned journalists and experts from FHWien der WKW. In addition to Head of Study Programs Daniela Süssenbacher and program directors Regula Blocher, Carola Leitner, Martin Reichenauer, and Karina Schwann, eight independent journalists served as jurors. In the Radio & Audio category, Bea Sommersguter and Matthias Däuble (both Ö1) made the decision. In the TV & Video category, the jurors were Ed Moschitz (ORF) and Christine Grabner. The winning text was selected by Wolfgang Sablatnig (Tiroler Tageszeitung) and Julia Ortner (ORF). The award in the Multimedia category was decided by Yvonne Widler (Kurier) and Max Miller (Profil).
