NEW: Master's in Journalism
The new path to quality journalism
For the first time in Austria, students can complete an academic programme in quality journalism in just 4 semesters. The institute of Journalism & Media Management will soon offer a 4-semester part-time Master's Degree Programme in Journalism & Media Management that builds on your 6-semester bachelor's degree programme.
This now gives you the opportunity to complement your previous studies (Bachelor or other completed certification) – for example, economics, law, political science, medicine, technology, history, natural sciences etc. – with a solid two-year academic journalism education. In this way you receive a thoroughly practice-oriented, well-founded education enabling you to become a highly specialised quality journalist for print, radio, television, and online media. Not only does the programme target graduates of the institute's bachelor's programme, but is especially attractive for public university and UAS grads as well.
In contrast to other expensive post-graduate programmes, the tuition fees for the Master's Degree Programme at the Institute of Journalism & Media Management are the usual € 363.36 per semester.
Our faculty
80% of our instructors come directly from the professional world to the seminar room. Thus as a student you can obtain solid first hand knowledge and establish valuable contacts while you are still studying. For an overview of our faculty and guest lecturers, please refer to our homepage and (German language) book "Wie werde ich Journalist/in? - Wege in den Traumberuf" (Reinhard Christl, Silke Rudorfer, Hg.), ISBN 3-8258-0466-4, € 20.50.
Programme goals and requirements
You would be surprised how often business executives complain about journalists who cannot read a balance sheet. Health reports in which medical terminology is misused rubs doctors the wrong way. And pundits lament foreign policy editors who believe Myanmur and Burma are two different countries. None of this will happen to our graduates. This is thanks to the combination of expertise from their previous (BA) degree programme and our practice-orientated, first class master's degree programme in quality journalism.
One is eligible for the Master's Programme in Journalism & Media Management after completing an undergraduate degree, such as:
- An undergraduate (BA or Magister) degree from a public university in economics, political science, history, natural sciences, technology, medicine, law
- A business-orientated BA degree from a university of applied science in majors such as European economy and business administration or business consultancy.
- A BA degree from the FHWien University of Applied Science of WKW for Management & Communications
